UCSB Dept. of Asian American Studies looking for temporary lecturers for Winter 2021

The Department of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Asian American Studies for upcoming openings. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. All positions will be part time.

Note: our department is particularly interested in applicants who would be able to teach a large lower division class (for freshmen and sophomores) during our Winter 2021 quarter (Jan 1, 2021 – March 30, 2021). All UCSB Asian American Studies classes will be taught remotely/online for this quarter. Our next review date for applications will be October 16, 2020.

A Master’s Degree in Asian American Studies or related field is a minimum requirement; however, candidates with a PhD or ABD in Asian American Studies or related field (or equivalent degree) are preferred. In addition, at least one year of teaching experience is required.

Successful candidates will be hired to teach one or two courses listed in the Department’s current curricular offerings. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach queer studies, popular culture, transnationalism, law and immigration, environmental justice, communities, ethnographies, visual culture, and mental health from an Asian American studies perspective. Candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service are particularly encouraged to apply.
